NEW YORK STATIONERY SHOW 2017
The Jacob K. Javits Convention Center has been the host of the NSS for more than 70 years. Just being in the building was an experience, knowing you are under the same roof as some of the pioneers of the industry, and rubbing elbows with retailers you've dreamed of mirroring.
I was thrilled at how many smaller, independent suppliers were showing this year. As a new retailer, I've chosen to do my best to support small business as much as possible and bring my customers products that you don't see when you walk into a big box store. It was so thrilling to be able to meet so many lovely people I've only ever communicated with via email or Instagram. To chat about new products and be able to touch and feel and see is invaluable to discovering the quality of the products you're exploring. It also presents the opportunity to develop real relationships between supplier and retailer.
I came home with a mountain of new catalogues and visions of what I hope my store can become. It was inspiring to be surrounded with so much creativity, knowledge and experience, and yet I feel like I've only scratched the surface. I'm grateful for this experience, and I can't wait to go back next year.
